Social Security
Social security in Australia refers to a system of a social welfare payments provided by the government and are administered by a government body named Centrelink. As a newly arrived migrant, you are not immediately eligible for social security. You have to live in Australia as permanent resident for 2 years to be eligible for some social security payments. These include the unemployment benefits, income support payment to youngsters, sickness allowance, disability benefits, pension benefits and other benefits.
Health
Australian government provides help with medical expenses through a scheme called Medicare. Medicare delivers free hospital care helps with the cost of seeing local doctor and with paying for medicine and some treatments.
