This class of visa allows for a 5 years provisional to be granted, after which time a permanent visa can be applied for once investment criteria has been met.

  • INVESTMENT: AUD$ 2.5 million into complying investments for 4 years

Age: Less than 55 years of age –
Experience: At least 3 years of direct involvement in eligible investment.
Point Tests: Pass mark of 65 points
Sponsorship: Be nominated by a state or territory government


Investor stream (Permanent) (Subclass 888) Visa
Have a Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) Subclass 188 visa reside in Australia while holding the Sub class 188 visa for at least 2 of the last 4 years immediately before you apply)

You (or your partner, or you and your partner combined) must have:

  1. Held a designated investment for four years in the nominating state or territory
  2. A satisfactory record of complying with Australian laws, including those relating to taxation, superannuation, workplace relations and other laws relevant to your business
  3. Not been involved in unacceptable business or investment activities

  • INVESTMENT: at least AUD$ 5 million in complying investments for the duration of your provisional visa

(Staying 40 days each year) 160 days in the past 4 years.


Complying Investment

Applicants must make an investment of at least AUD 5 million into a complying investment to qualify for a significant investor visa.
Direct investment into private Australian companies – in which you have an ownership interest. The company must operate a qualifying business.
Eligible managed funds – that are limited to investing in any or all of the following Australian assets:

  • Infrastructure projects in Australia
  • Cash held by Australian deposit-taking institutions
  • Bonds issued by the Australian Government or a State or Territory government
  • Bonds, equity, hybrids or other corporate debt in Australian companies and trusts listed on any Australian stock exchange
  • Bonds or term deposits issued by Australian financial institutions
  • Real estate in Australia
  • Australian agribusiness
  • Other ASIC-regulated managed funds that invest in the above list of investments
